Glyphosate stands as a systemic, broad-spectrum organophosphorus herbicide, effectively inhibiting the enolacetone-based shikikin phosphate synthetase in plants. This inhibition prevents the conversion of shikikin into essential amino acids like phenylalanine, tyrosine, and tryptophan, thereby interfering with protein synthesis and resulting in plant demise. It is potent against over 40 plant families, including monocots and dicots, annuals and perennials, herbaceous plants, and shrubs. Particularly destructive to the underground tissues of perennial deep-rooted weeds, it finds extensive application in agriculture, forestry, animal husbandry, industrial transportation, and various non-agricultural settings such as forests, rubber plantations, farmland, tea mulberry fields, orchards, sugarcane fields, forest fire isolation belts, railways, airports, warehouses, oil depots, and power stations.
