Glyphosate is an organophosphorus herbicide, known for its systemic conductive broad-spectrum properties. It primarily inhibits the enolacetone-based shikikin phosphate synthetase in plants, disrupting the conversion of shikikin to essential amino acids such as phenylalanine, tyrosine, and tryptophan. This results in interference with protein synthesis, leading to plant death. It effectively controls over 40 plant families, including monocots, dicots, annuals, perennials, herbaceous plants, and shrubs. It is particularly destructive to the underground tissues of perennial deep-rooted weeds.
